I have knitted several over sized berets, in different colors, using seed stitch. Also scarves, men's and women's, in rib. The gauge is always perfect. The only negative - if you are a fast knitter and often take your eyes off the knitting, you may split the yarn. However, I would put this as human error rather than the fault of the yarn.
