I made mittens for my daughter from a pattern designed from a pair that the character, Bella, in the movie "Twilight" wore. My daughter wanted a particular shade of grayish blue and the yarn color Blue Steel was perfect. The combination of alpaca wool and silk was heavenly to knit with, and she reports the constant, tactile feeling of the knitted mittens on her hands is sumptuous. The pattern called for a bulky yarn, which I could not find in the color I wanted. I double stranded the yarn and the mittens worked up just fine. I would have preferred a bulky yarn, but it was not to be. She loves them, so that's all that matters.
