I discovered alpaca a year ago while looking for a specific color yarn and love it. It is not as scratchy as regular wool and is a joy to work with. It's a good value for an all-natural fiber. I use it for scarves, slippers, and afghans.

Using for a scarf, the variegation is subtle and beautiful with a shiny strand running through it that makes the color pop. It's not too obvious--not like glitter or anything--but makes the final fabric look very sophisticated.

Taking off one star only because it can get a little splitty and I wish it was superwash!
