I think this is a great work horse of a yarn, that often gets overlooked. I teach knitting, and like to recommend it to my beginning students because of the great stitch definition. The plies are wound tight enough so they don't easily split. There are a lot of colors to appeal to everyone. And there is enough yardage for beginners to practice on and the cost is very reasonable. Plus if you are making a felted project, this wool felts wonderfully. This may not be the softest yarn, but it does soften up some with immersion blocking and a good wool wash.

I design and Felt Handbags and this is one of the yarns that Felts so beautifully, smooth soft and shapes beautifully. The only color that doesnt felt the same as the others is Black.

Cascade 220 is a great basic light worsted. It comes in a myriad of great colors and the weight is useful for many garments. Alpaca Direct has the best price I have found [...]!Just be sure you don't expect Cascade 220 to behave like a heavy worsted weight yarn. It is definitely light worsted or dk.
