Comments about Alpaca Direct Cocoa Colonial Top:
I wasn't too sure about this at first, since I'm relatively inexperienced with fiber arts, but this was the right color for the felting project I had in mind, and I couldn't find any sheep's wool in the right color (I learned how to felt using sheep wool, so that's what I'm used to and most comfortable with).
It's VERY soft, and it was a lot fussier to keep the edges of my bats even, and it took a little more work (compared to sheep wool) to make the felt consistency that I wanted, but ultimately, this stuff worked our wonderfully. I did notice that a little bit of the dye leeched out as I was felting (hot water and soap, go figure), but not enough to really make an appreciable difference in color. This is softer than sheep wool, which is an added bonus, since the felt I made will soon continue life as a stuffed toy. I'll definitely stick with alpaca wool if I plan another project like this.
