I ordered this fiber to spin about 250 yards of a sport weight yarn for a knit a long to make a cowl. I wasn't sure how much yardage 4 ounces would produce. I spun 2 plies of the alpaca and 1 ply of some Columbia I had. The 4 ounces of alpaca produced 375 yards of 2 ply - wow!

This is a beautiful fiber - the slight variation in color of the fibers strands can easily be seen. It drafts very smoothly and is VERY soft. I know a lot of people have trouble spinning alpaca because it's slippery and lacks the grip of wool - but I have had no trouble with this fiber, and this is the first alpaca I've spun.

Truly silver in color, not just gray. Makes soft, fine yarn, even for this beginning spinner. I'm using it for scarves, and a little bit for accent in an all hand-spun jacket.
