Comments about Alpaca Direct Hip Knit Hats - 40 Fabulous Designs by Cathy Carron:
The subtitle says 40 designs, but each of the 'named' patterns lists two sizes and variations based on materials and techniques. All of the patterns are for adult sizes and all are for knitting. Many are knit from the top down, recommending a 'wrap method' of casting on. I couldn't get the hang of it, despite good photos, but trying it led me to my own method of creating a no-hole crown which can be used for those hats. There is one entrelac pattern, which demystifies a seemingly magic woven-strips look. There are 4 felted patterns at the end that I haven't tried. If you are looking for baby/kid patterns or crochet, look elsewhere. There are also no other accessories--no scarves, socks, gloves or mittens. For me, that's a real plus. I have recommended it to people who ask me for the pattern of the hat I'm knitting.
